Making a Custom Damascus Chef's Knife from Start to Finish. Part 1.
This is the start of a commissioned damascus chef's knife. I will be adding videos of my progress to completion of this project. I have started with 3/16" X 2.5" 1084 and 15N20. There are 8 layers of each, so I'm starting with a 16 layer billet. This is larger steel than I typically use for a damascus billet. It weighs in at about 8lbs. The customer wants a raindrop or birds eye damascus chef's knife with ebony scales and nickel pins. I should have enough material l

Terry makes a damascus knife with sheath at an LLForge custom forge experience.
Terry came to the forge and took a cut-off from a damascus billet that was on its way to the scrap pile. With some effort Terry was able to forge out a very nice blade. He choose ebony scales and nickel pins to finish his blade. Terry also made a hand stitched leather sheath to go with his new knife. The billet Terry used was a 23 layer twist pattern.

Chinese Deer Horn blades one of the most challenging builds I've had at the forge.
These Chinese Deer Horn blades were made from 80CRV2 steel with Springbok scales, hidden micarta pins and a blasted finish. These were a dificult build because of the multiple radius, inside and out, that needed to be beveled and sharpened. Also the Springbok scales were a challenge to fit. I used three .25" "hidden" micarta pins to help secure the scales to the blades. It was also challenging to get both of them to match. All in all it was a good experience but trying o

Jamie & Cynthia show the knives and sheaths they have made today at the forge. Both knives started as blanks from 80CRV2 steel. Jamie added bloodwood scales and brass pins. Cynthia choose walnut scales and brass and micarta pins. Both knives have a "forge finish" and hand stitched

Chinese Deer Horn. One more to go to complete the set! This one has certainly tested my skills.
From 80CRV2 steel, with Springbok scales and micarta hidden pins. This is one of a set of two. This is a custom order that has proven to be challenging to say the least. I will post pictures of the set when finished.
